How to Choose the Right Wardrobe for YOU!

When re-decorating our homes, we spend hours ensuring the new paint colour is just right, or ordering different samples of wallpapers to ensure the colour schemes match but why do we not treat the way we select our wardrobes the same? Choosing a wardrobe that’s perfect for you is just as important as the freshly fitted carpet and varnished skirting boards! We understand that deciding on wardrobes is not top of anyone’s list as you just want something that looks nice and is big enough, but a new wardrobe is an opportunity to solve old problems.

Our team have put together a list of helpful tips and tricks to help you choose a perfect wardrobe for your style, space and ease! First, we ask that you consider the following questions;

  • Fitted or Freestanding?
  • What door style would my room benefit from the most?
  • Do I need shelf space or hanging space?
  • Would drawers be useful?
  • What would I like the finished product to look like?

Fitted or Freestanding

The first factor to consider is if you want a bespoke fitted bedroom or a free-standing wardrobe. Whether it be fitted or free standing they both have advantages and disadvantages with no 2 ever the same for each person. Below is a list of helpful advantages to help decide which style to decide on…

Bespoke Fitted Bedroom  vs  Freestanding Bedroom

  • Tailored exactly to your room needs
  • Any size/design
  • Interior options EXACTLY how you want them
  • Optimisation of your space
  • Bespoke design
  • Added value to any home
  • Unlimited styles and colours to choose from
  • Various combinations to suit any size
  • Easily moveable
  • Quick delivery/turnaround
  • Products can easily be added
  • Suits ALL budgets
  • Flat-pack or ready assembled

With all the above in mind money can also play a huge part is selecting fitted or free standing. As bespoke fitted bedrooms are custom made for each customer this does come at a price and you can pay double sometimes triple what you would for free standing. This isn’t to say freestanding are cheap, far from it and if bought correctly the quality is no different between the 2.

Now you have decided fitted or free standing, the next step is to decide how big you want your wardrobes…

What size should I choose?

We all know that it is not always about the size but more how you use it, and this is exactly the same with wardrobes. You could decide on a 4 door all hanging wardrobe but if you’ve no shelves for your shoes and bags or unused space and not enough hanging rails for shorts and t-shirts then you have just wasted 2metres of floor and wall space! Whether you have a small bedroom, large bedroom or even lucky enough to have a walk-in wardrobe we all know how precious floor space can be. Start thinking VERTICALLY, UP UP UP!

STEP 1. Make a note of the ideal minimum and maximum height, width & depths

STEP 2. Decide on Sliding Doors or Traditional Doors

STEP 3. Think about interior options to help eliminate any that aren’t adaptable

STEP 4. Keep in mind colour schemes and practicality

Style, Colour & More

The 3rd and final step we can help you decide on is the overall look of your chosen wardrobe and interior options. For example, if your bedsides, chests and vanity are elegant white and gold curved you are not going to choose a contemporary grey gloss sliding door as this would be a stark contrast and may make you regret your decision. The wardrobe is more than likely the largest item in the room aside from the bed so this needs to be the safest choice. We advise with your wardrobe IF NOT MATCHING exactly to existing furniture to choose a neutral colour i.e. White, Cream, Oak or Black. This way if in the future you are wanting to change it is easy to replace the smaller items. Also think about if you want a mirror on your doors or separate. This could also depend on the space available in your room.

Finally, it is time to decide on your interior options and your dream bedroom is complete. Some wardrobes are set in regards to what’s available inside whereas others are more flexible. Either way think about the choice carefully as this could be the answer to an undisguised problem you never realised existed!
